The steel products such as the billets and the ingots, usually need to be heated orsoaking under the certain oxidizing atmosphere and the certain temperature in the hea-ting furnace before rolling. But in the traditional heating process, air contains only21%oxygen, the remaining79%is ballast, practically nitrogen. In combustion processes allthis ballast is negative; it does not take part in the combustion, but has to be heated up,consuming unnecessary extra fuel. At the same time, the surface of the billets will takethe shape of the oxide layers with a certain thickness, which waste the energy and influ-ence the surface quality of the billets. The oxygen enriched combustion is a new energysaving technology. Because of the high cost of oxygen in the early days of air separationtechnologies, the technology always cannot get a wide range of applications in the worl-dwide. As the oxygen manufacturers improved the air separation technologies and redu-ced the cost of oxygen, the oxygen enriched combustion technology will be used morewidely. This paper is to study the application of the oxygen enriched combustion techn-ology in the heating furnace.Firstly, the thermal characteristics of the oxygen enriched combustion technologyis studied. Based on the actual situation of pusher type reheating furnace which heatedby the most common fuel gas, such as the natural gas, the blast furnace gas, and themixed gas (the mixture products of the blast furnace gas and coke oven gas), establishthe oxygen enriched combustion heating furnace model to study the application of theoxygen enriched combustion technology from the theoretical perspective. The mainresearch contents include the calculation of the theoretical combustion temperatures, thethermal decomposition calculation of the CO2and H2O, the calculation of the heattransfer characteristics, the size calculation of the heating furnace, the calculation of theheating times and so on. At the same time, qualitatively analysis the oxidationcharacteristics of the billet combined with the calculation results.Next, the oxidation characteristics on high temperature of the oxy-fuel combustionreheating furnace is studied through the design of the experimental research. Combinedwith the theoretical research and experimental results, through the reasonablehypothesis and data processing, the high temperature(1000~1250℃) oxidation modelis established for the natural gas-oxygen enriched combustion heating furnace, themodel as shown below: And the low temperature (700~900℃) oxidation model:At last, used the the high temperature oxidation model on the pusher type reheating furnace model which established in this paper. The calculation results show that the app-lication of the oxygen enriched combustion technology in the heating furnaceis feasible, and the oxygen content of the combustion adjuvant ranges in28~35%.
