High refractive index glass microbeads are the main components of back reflectionmaterial, had been widely used in road safety facilities and all kinds of protective equipmentas security indication.To develop high performance glass microbeads, develop the preparation of low cost, lowenergy consumption is of great significance. Through sol–gel method, this paper studied thepreparation of a new process of glass microbeads of different ingredients and opticalperformance.Through the preparation of different composition system of sol, the sol gelation ofmicrospheres in paraffin oil use of surface tension, after drying and sintering process, finallyget good roundness, with uniform particle size distribution of glass microbeads.With ethyl orthosilicate, tetrabutyl titanate as raw materials, prepared SiO2-TiO2glassmicrobeads by the sol-gel method, and studied the influence of the TiO2content on the glassmicrosphere to the optical properties and structure.With oxygen zirconium chloride as the raw material, prepared SiO2-TiO2-ZrO2sol,microspheres after drying and sintering get good roundness, uniform particle size of glassmicrobeads, and by adjusting the molar ratio of TiO2and ZrO2, obtained the excellent opticalperformance of the ratio of glass microbeads.With aluminum nitrate, calcium carbonate and magnesium chloride as raw material inglass microbeads into Al2O3, CaO, MgO style, used to improve the chemical stability of theglass microbeads and thermodynamic stability, reducing the precipitation of crystal glassmicrobeads.In SiO2-TiO2-ZrO2system doped La2O3, after800℃sintering, prepared high refractiveindex glass microbeads with pervious to light and the refractive index was between1.8–1.9.
