Laser welding is a very efficient welding method in the modern welding technique, the CNC system which is associated with the laser welder can determine the quality welds and the precision. The traditional CNC systems are generally closed, poor interoperability; it will make the control accuracy and interpolation accuracy unable to meet the requirements of today’s market and customer. To meet more complicated processing requirements, this paper proposes a method that combining the Open CNC with the laser welder to improve the control precision, then using the NURBS curve interpolation to optimize weld quality.This paper uses the "PC+motion controller" as the architecture of the Open CNC system, designing the system according to the portability、scalability and interoperability of the Open CNC system. Using the high-performance PC and motion controller which is based on the DSP to form a dual CPU mode to improve the processing speed and real-time responsiveness of the system.The paper analyses the software features of the Open CNC system, and completed a modular design on the software of the system, the paper selects Windows2000operating system as the running platform of the software, using the Visual C++6.0programming language as a system software development tool, achieving the function of some important modules in the laser welder CNC system, such as data interface module, interactive interface module and machining simulation modules.Researching the problem of interpolation precision on traditional laser welding CNC systems. Analyzing the limitations of traditional interpolation methods, the use of NURBS curve interpolation algorithm is proposed to complete the optimization of the welding path and use the MATLAB software to make a simulation on the interpolation algorithm designed, the correctness and feasibility of the path optimization algorithm designed can be proved, then the problem on path optimization is solved.The final part is experiment, which is included commissioning of the motion controller、 the actual operation of the machining simulation module in the software part and the welding experiment after combining the designed Open CNC system with the laser welder. Finally, the paper makes a summary of the full text, raising the content of the work of the further research.
