The main function of multi-rope friction hoists is to lift stones, materials and equipment in mine production, which as a result has a significant role in the whole comprehensive mechanization of mine production. In recent years, the structure and the capability of hoists is getting bigger,which in turn results in the increase of the difficulty in producing the parts and the safety and reliability of the hoists are challenged. Most of the domestic hoists take the traditional static way for the designation. The structure parameters are frequently bigger and it takes more time to design, which has an influence on production updating and saving the materials. Inaddition, due to the designing thought,some parts are easy to fail and the normal operation of the hoists is influenced. As a result, the traditional designation method faces inevitable challenges. The competing market requires modern method to be adopted, which should aim at the international trend of hoists and get capable of designing hoists with better performance to fulfill the needs of mine industry. It has a significant meaning both theoretically and practically to make type choices and calculations for this type of hoists adopting modern designation method.By combining both the modern and traditional methods, multiple modes are made with different mode-setting methods based on actual data. Good modes with high performance and good match are selected by example tests. The calculated tests match have a good consistency with the actual parameters and norms,which verifies the reliability and practicability of the mode. This solves several typical problems in traditional hoist designing method, such as the big difference between actual and theoretical data, the matchlessness between the key equipment and the hoist, too large of the structure parameter and so on. By building a user interface for selecting best mode, a mode curve could be drawn and the smallest error between the result and the standard loading can be tested, which clearly shows that the new designation method is better reliability and easier operation style. Based on the building of the best mode interface, the software for selecting the whole set of the hoists could be designed. In the process of calculating the primitive data, warning can be automatically made when the data may not be satisfy with the safety requirements or national standard. Users can solve the problems by adjusting the parameters, which could then meet the requirements of safe production and standard and avoids repeated calculation. This in turn decreases the work load and at the same time improves the work efficiency. The research provides a guide for the designation and production of multi-rope friction hoists, which helps companies to improve companies’ competitiveness in the industry and in the world.
