Pigment printing is widely used for its simple process, energy saving and wideadaptability. But the fabric of pigment printing has the disadvantage of uncomfortablehand feel and low rubbing fastness. The ultra-fine pigment was developed in recent years,its paticle was nano-sized, its specific surface area was bigger and its surface energy washigher. As a result, the ultra-fine pigment had higher tinctorial strength, brighter color andbetter color fastness. In this article, ultra-fine pigment of150nm particle size was used,which thickener and binder is best for the silk ultra-fine pigment printing has been studied,and the optimum condition for printing process has been discussed, and the effect of fabricin optimum condition of ultra-fine pigment printing and common pigment printing hasbeen compared.The aqueous thickener HIT, thickener PTF, thickener L and thickener PDC wereselected. The compatibility with pigment and binder, the rheological characteristic, thickenperformance and water-holding ability of these4thickeners was studied. The resultshowed thickener PDC had better rheological characteristic, thicken performance,water-holding ability and it was compatible with pigment and binder. Thickener PDCwas chosen for ultra-fine pigment printing on silk fabric.The binder ALW-T、Neoviprint SP-H、Neoviprint JJS、Compound P、ZOBOprint FS-P、Superprint101-APF、 ZOBOprint FS-T and ZOBOprint G-D were selected. Thepenetrability, the rubbing fastness of printed fabric, the K/S value, and fabric mood ofthese8binders were studied. The result showed the printed fabric of binder Superprint101-APF had better penetrability, higher rubbing fastness, softer hand feel and smoothersurface. Binder Superprint101-APF was chosen for ultra-fine pigment printing on silkfabric.The optimum condition of ultra-fine pigment printing on silk fabric was obtained. Byusing thickener PDC and binder Superprint101-APF and1%pigment, the optimum condition of printing-drying-baking process was binder dosage10%, thickener dosage1.6%(to adjust the viscosity to about10000mPa·s), use ammonia to adjust the pH to8-9,dry at60℃after printing, then baking for2min at140℃.The effect of fabric in optimum condition of ultra-fine pigment printing and commonpigment printing has been compared. Results showed the penetration of ultra-fine pigmentprinting is75%, better than common pigment printing, ultra-fine pigment is more suitableto penetration printing. The dry rubbing fastness of ultra-fine pigment printing reachedlevel4-5, half level higher than that of common pigment printing, the wet rubbing fastnessof ultra-fine pigment printing reached level4,1level higher than that of common pigmentprinting. LT of ultra-fine pigment printing was0.700, RT was80.52%, B was0.0986gf·cm2/cm,2HB was0.0540gf·cm/cm. Ultra-fine pigment printing fabric was softer thanthat of common pigment printing; it had a similar compression performance and surfaceperformance to common pigment printing. The fabric of ultra-fine pigment printing had airpermeability of527mm·s-1, moisture permeability of2423.28g·m-2·24h-1, a little higherthan that of common pigment printing.
