The earth which provides the necessary resources and survival environment forhuman beings is the only home for us to live. With the rapid development of economy, people’s living standard has been improved greatly, while the environmental problembecomes increasingly serious. The worsening environment has largely influencedpeople’s daily life, so how to improve the relationship between environmental qualityand economic development seems to be closely related to personal interest.Chongqing is a city of industry with a long history, and also one of the key westerncities in the West Development plan. As a core city in the west part of china, how torealize the coordinated development of its economy and environment is particularlyimportant and urgent. The current situation of environmental quality in Chongqing, itsdevelopmental trend in the future and The regularity between its economicdevelopment and environmental quality are all need further research. Only based onthe accurate and scientific understanding of the relationship between its economy andenvironment, the effective measures are taken to achieve the coordinated developmentbetween them.In this paper, on the basis of the previous studies, and with the help of thetheoretical model by the environmental Kuznets curve I, it carries out an empiricalstudy of Chongqing’s relationship between economic development and environmentalquality from1995to2012. It gets the environmental Kuznets curve of variouspollutants in Chongqing by using the SPSS, and then based on this to analyze thecurve characteristics and its causes. The study found that in the environmental pollution flow index, the environmentalKuznets curve which is based on industrial waste gas is characteristic of invertedletter "N"; that of which based on solid waste and industrial waste water, sulfurdioxide life waste is characteristic of weakly inverted letter "N" and seems like aninverted "U" type; that of which based on waste water show the growth with the samespeed. in the stock index of environmental pollution, the everyday average of NO2continuously fluctuate with the increasing in GDP,which is unable to fit any kind ofenvironmental Kuznets curve, and the inhalable particulate’s and SO2’s annualaverage showed a weak inverse "N" type. The characteristics of Changing’s industrial structure are conducive to the emission reduction of industrial waste water and solid wastes, but not conducive tothat of industrial waste gas, and even the number of industrial waste gas emissionsmay grow. The inverted "N" type of SO2, which is obvious on the left while the rightpart is not obvious, shows that the SO2emission is gradually reduced. The sewageemissions continue to increase, and which exceed that of the discharge of industrialwastewater, so it must be one of the difficult problems we are facing in the futureabout how to control emissions of living sewage. Through the comparative analysis offitting results in environmental pollution flow index and stock index, theenvironmental improvement has a lagged effect. Finally, the text provides some policyrecommendations according to the research results.
