Plunge shaving method is a finishing machining process, has the advantages of high processing efficiency, high workpieces precision, good tooth surface quality and long tool service life, and suitable for processing multi-gear as a useful technology, attracting more and more attention.Because of tooth surface of plunge shaving cutter is the beyond space normal curved surface, the transcendence curved of the tooth is concave curve,this kind of complex curved surface to the plunge shaving cutter grinding has brought certain difficulties. Plunge shaving cutter tool manufacturing technology limits the widespread application in the country, where the tool tooth surface modification is a key factor in tool manufacture. Therefore, the analysis of the plunge shaving cutter tooth surface shape has great significance.Plunge shaving processing mechanism is through crossed helical gear meshing, so that the distribution of the chip flutes and functionality with cutting edge flank feed pressure and workpiece to be machined, and make no gap engagement movement, while taking advantage of tooth surfaces the cutting action produced by relative slip between the material to be processed is removed. This paper analyzes the plunge shaving cutter design theory, and then create dimensional model of a piece helical gear and plunge shaving cutter blank in UG, by simulating their actual process,completing the modification of plunge shaving cutter and extracted teeth arc on its comparative analysis, getting some useful conclusions. This paper conducted the following studies:(1) On the basis of analyzes the mechanism of plunge shaving process, the establishment of auxiliary space coordinates the tooth surface parameter equation of work gear, and has been the transformation matrix between different coordinate systems, due to the plunge shaving cutter tooth surface and the workpiece helical gear teeth surface is a pair of conjugate tooth surface, so the work gear tooth surfaces can envelope the plunge shaving cutter tooth surface, thereby obtaining plunge shaving cutter tooth surface and meshing line equation; then determine the reference plane spiral face and solve starting angle to clarify the calculation of the plunge shaving cutter on the amount of grinding capacity.(2) Due to the complexity of the plunge shaving cutter tooth surface, there are certain difficulties for the simple use of space engagement theory to design and manufacture plunge shaving cutter. In view of this, according to the principles of the envelope, because of the two at any time are engaged with each other, construct the work gear and plunge shaving cutter blank three-dimensional solid model, through the work gear modified shaving blank,reverse cutting plunge shaving cutter. In UG established three-dimensional parametric model of plunge shaving cutter blank with staggered cutting slots and workpiece helical gear, and designed to generate flowchart of tooth model with staggered cutting slots.(3) In accordance with constraint relations between the plunge shaving cutter and workpiece helical gears completed both of precise meshing assembly; according to plunge shaving of the actual processing conditions to simulate the process in UG, design simulation assembly of the cutting process and final get three-dimensional model of plunge shaving cutter(4) Due to the different plunge shaving cutter tooth surface and the reference spiral surface is trace, and difficult to measure directly, we use contrast arc variation method at different positions, to the finished plunge shaving cutter and plunge shaving cutter blank establish a series of concentric circles at different tooth width, and then were to be measured on the arc tooth data obtained by comparing the modification quantity were plotted on the axial and the tooth profile to change the trend; Finally, analyze modification quantity of tooth surface at different locations and their corresponding shape of the tooth surface. And then concludes:in the middle cross-section of the tooth width mpdification quantity is the largest and the smaller modification quantity of tooth edge width is the farther, at the same time modification of data presents about the middle section of tooth width basically are symmetry, tooth profile modification quantity decreases with the decreas of the radius, indicating get plunge shaving cutter tooth profile curve is not involute,but the more the greater the thickness near the root.The shaving cutter can not only guarantee the accuracy of the workpiece, and enhanced the intensity of the tool and lifetime.
