Based on the coal slime hydrocyclone gravity separation column. A new structural improvement was designed on the cyclone apex and overflow pipe By regulating the insert depth of solid conic bar or the hollow conic tube to adjust the diameter of the apex. Also by regulating the insert depth of angled cross leaves and the diameter of the pneumatic pinch valves to adjust the diameter of the overflow pipe. Then we can adjust the working conditions of the cyclone online to get the clean coals and tailings with different ash.Using raw coal which granularity was under lmm in the tunlan coal preparation plant as the feeding. With the consist feeding pressure, the coal slime separation were conducted to adjust the apex. The results showed that with the increase of the insert depth of the cross leaves, the ash of the clean coals and tailings became higher. Replacing the cross leaves with a solid conic bar, with the increase of the insert depth of the solid conic bar,, the ash of the clean coals and tailings became higher sharply. Taking into account the influence of solid conic bar to the formation of air core. a hollow conic tube was inserted in the apex to employe coal slime separation. The results showed that with the increase of the insert depth of the cross leaves, the ash of the clean coals and tailings became higher relatively slow, Also it’s adjusting range is wider than the solid conic bar’s.At the same experimental conditions, Inserting a angled cross leaves into overflow. by regulating the insert depth of the leaves to adjust the diameter of the overflow pipe. This experiment had two kinds of leaves with different angle. With the increase of the insert depth of the leaves with large angle, the ash of the clean coals and tailings became lower,But it’s adjusting range is narrow. Then the experiment was focused on the leaves with small angle.Repeated experiments’results showed that the ash of the clean coals and tailings were basically unchanged when the insert depth was not worth30mm, but after that,with the increase of the insert depth, the ash of the clean coals and tailings were becoming lower shaply. In addition, a pneumatic pinch valve was added on the overflow chamber. By regulating pressure pump’s press to control the valve’s diameter. The results showed that with the decrease of the diameter, the ash of the clean coals and tailings became lower.Numerical simiulation was done for the test structure with the Computational Fluid Dynamics Fluent6.3.The10mm and20mm insert depths of the solid conic bar and the hollow conic tube were simiulated in the apex adjustments, The0mm、30mm、50mm and70mm insert depths of the cross leaves with small angle. The tangential velocity, the axial velocity,the turbulent intensity were analysised to compare with the experiment results.
