Cyclone classification technology has been more widely used in petroleum, chemical,mining, metallurgy, marine engineering and other fields as an efficiency classification of themultiphase technology.The hydrocyclone is a centrifugal separation equipment to achieve rapidseparation with high separation efficiency, small room, and long life, as well as easyoperation.Besides,operation of the hydrocyclone does not cause secondary pollution.Standard cyclone widely used in the grinding and classification circuit of the mine has notbeen through grading district and entered the overflow directly,causing a short-circuit.As aresult,overflow granularity is coarse,and the classification efficiency is reduced.It is of greatsignificance to improve the classification performance of the cyclone by reducing or eliminatingthe short-circuit.Basing on the structure of standard overflow pipe in the laboratory, this article designs thestructure of two new overflow pipe,trying to force the fluid to go through a compressedregion,and to reduce the probability of coarse particles directly into the overflow,as well asimprove the classification performance of the cyclone.This is the first use of numericalsimulation software fluent to simulate the flow field of the three structures of the cyclone, afterthat,the subsequent experiments are started.The simulation results showed that the new curvedcyclone could reduce the short-circuit.Experimental study of the subsequent laboratory cyclone,proved that the new structure the overflow pipe can effectively improve the classificationperformance of the cyclone.The grade efficiency of the curved structure of the cyclone is higherthan that of the other two structures for the particle size less than60μm,when the overflow pipeis24mm in diameter. The grade efficiency of the curved structure of the cyclone is higher thanthat of the other two structures for the particle size less than100μm,when the overflow pipe is26mm in diameter.
