Complete product design process generally includes the preliminary market research andanalysis, product concept design, product evaluation and product design. Excellent furnituredesigner is not an artist but also an engineer. This paper takes the role of enterprise productdesigners as the main line, and focuses on modern solid wood bedroom to study the marketdemand, market competition environment, industrial competition environment and consumers’preference for design elements. It uses market investigation method, questionnaire surveymethod, Kansei engineering semantic analysis and other research methods, and combinesmarket marketing theory and Kansei engineering theory to study the preliminary marketresearch and analysis and product concept design before product development, aiming toprovide effective method and theory basis for other types of furniture design.The author choose Guangdong and Shenzhen these two foreign population mostcentralized cities as study sites, and conduced questionnaire survey with four hundred randomlyselected population to study the market demands of solid wood bedroom furniture; the authoralso visited Shenzhen Redstar such representative furniture stores, and visited the furniture fairsheld in Shanghai and the Pearl River Delta areas between2011and2014years. It aims to learnthe design dynamic, market trends and product line of some representative solid wood furnitureenterprises and understand the latest industry trends. Finally, the author chose50studentsstudied design or non design from Nanjing Forestry University to conduct emotional semanticsanalysis on solid wood bedroom furniture of different design, color and materials. With the helpof SPSS19.0and EXCEL statistical analysis software, the author arrived at below findingsbased on the above investigation data:(1)The furniture sales have a direct relationship with real estate sales, statisticalinvestigation revealed that solid wood bedroom furniture consumers are the new purchasecrowd, with25-35years old young people occupying the big proportion.(2)The bedroom area in China real estate is mainly15square meters around and insquare form. In order to meet the demand for bedroom space, while buying bedroom furnitureconsumers usually select bed, night table and wardrobe, which are also the main design factorsconsidered by this dissertation.(3)Modern style and new Chinese style is the main stream of current solid woodbedroom furniture in the market, with price mostly concentrated in the middle and low endmarket. The new Asian style becomes epidemic, high-end modern solid wood furniture andhigh-end new Chinese style solid wood furniture and solid wood children furniture are almostblank in the present market.(4)The emotional semantics conveyed by different shape, color and materials tocustomers is different.(5)Try to design bedroom furniture to meet market demand based on the existing research findings.Due to the lack of time and technologies, the author has not collected the market response forthe designed bedroom and not made market assessment before the finishing of this dissertation,also cannot inspect the success of this design timely. But it was from a comprehensiveperspective to do market research for product development by combining economics, marketing,mathematics, Kansei Engineering and other disciplines, providing a theoretical basis andtechnical support for other designers and other products design.
