Coal mine mobile refuge chamber is a kind of emergency equipment which couldprovide a shelter space when the mining accident happened. The refuge chamber must havesufficient strength to withstand high-intensity shock wave caused by gas explosion. Theribs are usually arranged based on experience when the refuge chamber being designed. Itis generally increasing the thickness of components in the original structure to achieve therequired strength, and this method is unreasonable and uneconomical. In this paper,Optistruct and Ls-Dyna are used to carry out the strength analysis and structuraloptimization in order to find the optimal structural layout. The paper mainly completed thefollowing work:(1) The shock wave propagation simulation of gas explosion in roadway was takenby establishing a numerical model of gas explosion with Autodyn, and all parts of therefuge chamber corresponding pressure graph were accessed. Then spectrum analysis ofoverpressure graph was done by using Matlab to obtain the frequency of shock wave andthe proportion of each frequency component.(2) In this paper, the three-dimensional entity model of the coal mine mobile refugechamber was established by the Pro/e software based on the structural parameters of theKJYF96/10model coal mine mobile refuge chamber. The finite element model wasestablished with HyperMesh.(3) The finite element model with three different constraints ways was established,and then used Optistruct to carry out modal analysis of the finite element model under threedifferent constraints, which was to find the most reasonable constraints. Then use Ls-Dynato figure out the strength of refuge chamber so that the displacement and stress nephogramof refuge chamber at different moments under blast effect was obtained. The safety of therefuge chamber structure was verified according to the specifications for coal mine mobilerefuge chamber.(4) On the basis of the finite element analysis topology optimization method isintroduced for the refuge chamber topology optimization. The optimum load path obtainedcould offer reference to improving the design and to lightweight construction of theproposed refuge chamber. Firstly, the topology optimization of single compartment, the foreand the rear end surface of refuge chamber were conducted based on Optistruct in order to get topology density nephogram. According to the results of optimization, the ribs structurallayout of single compartment, the fore and the rear end surface was changed, and refugechamber model was redesigned. After reconstruction of the refuge chamber, strengthanalysis was performed to verify the strength of refuge chamber. The optimized refugechamber meet the strength requirements which quality decreased by2.99tons. It could savethe production cost and transportation cost, and improve the economic benefit.
