The tar which was generated in acetic anhydride production process would reducethe effect of catalyst. Up to now, the catalyst recycling method can not meet therequirements of recycling efficiency. So we need to develop a new equipment whichcan achieve high recycling efficiency. In this work, a new equipment named rotatingpacked bed was invented for catalyst recycling in acetic anhydride production process.In this paper, first we put forward a kind of catalyst recycling method which canbe used for tar removal and catalyst recovery. Secondly, we develope a computationalframework to study the liquid phase flow and mixing characteristics in the rotatingpacked bed, then we design main components of the rotating packed bed. The third, bymeans of computational fluid dynamics. Finally, we manufacture the equipment andinspect it’s operation situation.The CFD simulations showed that the packing rotation is the key factor to thedistribution of velocity. The inlet liquid velocity have an effect on the local velocityfield however have little impact on the overall velocity field. The increase of thicknessof the packing and uniform distribution of inlet lead to more uniform distribution ofliquid. In addition, the mixing time could be shortened by increasing rotating speeds.It is of great significance to the production of acetic anhydride and the applicationtwo-phase extraction.
