Machinery automation is an advanced technology in manufacturing industry, which ifbe applied to manufacturing activities can effectively improve productivity and qualityof products and shorten the production cycle, while reducing production costs andworkers’ labor intensity, and improving the economic efficiency of enterprises.Machinery automation also has some certain significance in improving the workingenvironment, promoting the update progress of products and driving the development ofrelated technology.In this paper, with the polishing process of quartz glass polyhedron as the studyobject, according to the development status and production needs of quartz glassindustry, based on the study of existing processing technologies, combined with theshape characteristics and processing requirements of the object, an automatic polishingproduction line equipment and corresponding control system is designed. Theequipment is composed by polishing devices, plate chain conveyor devices, clampingdevices, transitional devices and status monitoring devices. Siemens S7-200PLC isapplied as the master controller of the control system, and the touch screen is used asthe Hunan-computer interaction device of the control system. By using the highlyintegrated engineering software developed by Siemens, the hardware configuration ofthe system is completed and the control scheme and programsare designed, which canachieve intelligent control of the automation equipment with high degree of humanity.To improve the flexibility and scalability of the system, the modular side covers aredesigned, which not only play sealing function, but also achieve a flexible adjustment ofthe conveyor plates; the polishing motors are housed on adjustable work benches toachieve automatic compensation for wears by trimming benches’ position. In this paper,SolidWorks software is used as the modeling tool for the three-dimensional solidmodeling of quartz glass polyhedron polishing automatic production line, and a virtualprototype is built by using the software.
