Nowadays, the commercial available stiffener is melamine formaldehyde resin polymers. The formaldehyde was released during the using procedure that can’t meet international environmental requirement. The finished fabric had big yellowing and loss in strength. In order to meet environmental requirement and actual production, the fine stiffener need to be developed which had no yellowing or small yellowing of finished fabric in high temperature, excellent waterproof, permanent or semipermanent and environmental protection. The cationic polyacrylate stiffening agent was prepared by emulsion polymerization with acrylics, styrene, methyl methacrylate as main monomers. The1227was used as cationic emulsifier. The PVA1788was used as protective colloid. The DEAM was used as functional cross-linking monomer. The mass proportion of NP-10,1303, NP-40,1227, AEO-7was1.0:1.6:1.6:2.0:6.8.The properties of the self-made stiffener was tested. The cationic polyacrylate stiffening agent was found that had worse stability, layering after seven days and a little deposit. The stiffener was applied to cotton and polyester-cotton fabric. Compared with commercial available stiffener, it had better stiffness, less shrinkage rate, more washable and more suitable for the cotton fabric. In addition to, the core-shell polyacrylate stiffening agent was prepared by seed emulsion polymerization with butyl acrylate, vinyl acetate, styrene, methyl methacrylate as main monomers. Structure of the stiffening agent was verified by infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR).The properties of core-shell polyacrylate stiffening agent was tested. The storage stability was well, no layering in three month, no deposit, milk white with blue. The core-shell polyacrylate stiffening agent was applied to polyester fabric. The bending length, weight gain rate after finished, weight loss rate after washing, whiteness, tear strength and scanning electron microscope of finished polyester fabric was tested. The waterproof and weight gain equipments were tested contrast to commercial available stiffener. The experimental results showed that the finishing process can effectively meet the actual requirements was defined as follows:stiffing agent600g emulsion/1L water, curing at200℃for1.5min;The finished fabric had non-yellowing or unconspicuous yellowing in high temperature, and good wash ability. A permanent or semipermanent stiffing agent was prepared.
