Stamping as an important forming way is increasely important in the process of carproduction. The quality of stamping parts has a vital influence on automobile products.The rapid development of automobile industry makes demand of the car plates increasegreatly. In today’s social environment that develops rapidly, time and efficiency havebeen the most important things, and this requires the auto industry must constantlyupdate progress, who can master the most advanced stamping technology, use moreadvanced technology and less time and human to set the best technics and develop thebest performance and the most cost-effective vehicles, can cut down its expenditureswhile can satisfy people more and more high demand, who can stand tall in theenvironment of the auto industry. The rising of the market competition makes theforming technology more and more complex, and the kind of materials increase quickly,which puts forward higher requirements on the forming process. In the meantime, thedeepening of the computer makes the application of numerical simulation in sheet metalstamping process increasingly common.Since CAE technology was used,it has experienced more than40years ofdevelopment and the theory has become increasingly mature. Today,it has been animportant tool of product design in all walks of life. The development of computertechnology has greatly improved the calculation precision of CAE software and makes itmore powerful. Nowadays, AUTOFORM has become an important CAE software whichis widespread used in the major car manufactures at home and abroad, and it providesautomotive covering parts research for a higher platform.In the paper’s beginning,not only the development and application of the finiteelement technology,but also automotive covering parts forming characteristics andquality requirements are introduced.Then the basic theories of numerical simulation ofsheet metal stamping forming are introduced in detail, including yield criterion, the constitutive relation, unit types, the algorithm of numerical simulation, commondefects of stamping.In the meantime, some characteristics of the simulation softwareAUTOFORM are also introduced. Finally, study the impact of changes of formingprocess parameters on the quality of stamping parts through simulation analysis ofstamping forming process and springback in each process of the the upper inner plate ofthe car left column B, including blank-holder force, friction coefficient, drawbeads, blankshape and so on, and optimize process parameters to obtain final forming results.
