This paper mainly used solution polymerization to synthesize acrylic superabsorbent polymer(SAP) and deeply studied the use of SAP in ethylene propylenediene polymethylene(EPDM), to get the type of water absorbent EPDM rubber withthe properties of high water absorbent rate, low precipitation rate, rapid waterabsorbent speed and certain mechanical properties. During the process of synthesis,first we used Orthogonal experimental design to study the effects of SAP’s waterabsorbent rate and salt solution absorbent rate by the basic factors. After that we usedcontrol rariate method to study the effects of SAP’s water absorbent rate and saltsolution absorbent rate by one of the factors. During the process of SAP’s use inEPDM, first we studied the water absorbent EPDM rubber, which mixed by the SAPand EPDM, and we find the water absorbent rubber had the properties of low waterabsorbent rate, high precipitation rate, slow water absorbent speed and high hardness.After searched lots of related paper, we came up with a created idea, mixed SAP, waterabsorbent polyurethane(WAPU) and EPDM. During the process of research we findthe new water absorbent EPDM rubber had the properties of high water absorbent rate,low precipitation rate, rapid water absorbent speed and certain mechanical properties.1. The part of SAP’s synthesis:(1)By the method of Orthogonal experimental design, we find that the degree ofneutralization has a significant effect of SAP’s water absorbent rate and the content ofAM has a significant effect of SAP’s salt solution absorbent rate.(2)By the analysis of SAP’s synthesis, we came to a conclusion, the SAP has ahigh water absorbent rate and high salt solution absorbent rate with the followingrecipe: the content of AM:1/4, the degree of neutralization:70%, the content ofinitiator:0.1%, the content of crosslinkers:0.1%, the polymerize temperature:70℃.(3)By the contrast of the different third monomer during the process of SAP’ssynthesis, we came to a conclusion that the SAP with the HEA has a high waterabsorbent rate and high salt solution absorbent rate and the SAP with the2-HEA has alow water absorbent rate and low salt solution absorbent rate.2. The part of WAPU’s synthesis:After evaluated comprehensively, The WAPU synthesized by P-23and TDI canuse best in the water absorbent EPDM like compatilizer. 3. The part of water absorbent rubber mixed by SAP and EPDM:After contrasted with the water absorbent rubber mixed by SAP, WAPU andEPDM, we find that the water absorbent rubber mixed by SAP and EPDM even thoughhas a good mechanical properties but its has the high hardness, low water absorbentrate, slow water absorbent speed and high precipitation.4. The part of water absorbent rubber mixed by SAP, WAPU and EPDM:After contrasted with water absorbent rubber mixed with SAP and EPDM, wefind that the water absorbent rubber mixed by SAP, WAPU and EPDM has theproperties of high water absorbent rate, rapid water absorbent speed, low precipitationrate and low hardness. So the water absorbent rubber mixed with SAP, WAPU andEPDM can meet our need.
