The Poly(amide-sulfonamide)s [PASAs] were first synthesized in the early1970s by reacting m-and p-chlorosulfonylbenzoyl chlorides with diamines using interfacial polymerization technique. However, its application have not been extensively studied. Since a series of poly(amide-sulfonamide)s were designed and synthesized in the1990s, people beganing to focus on the scope of application of the poly(amide-sulfonamide)s. Preliminary studies revealed that some of these polymers have good RO properties. Poly(amide-sulfonamides)s contain both amide and sulfonamide linkages in their strctual repeat units and exhibit characteristic properties of both polyamide and polysulfonamides. They are characterized by high strength, elasticity, toughness, and good mechanical and thermal properties. Since polyamide and polysulfonmides are both film-forming materials. PASAs containing both amide and sulfonamide linkages in their molecular backbones should have good potential for membrane application. In additional, the thin film of these polymers can be applied to reverse osmosis (RO), pervaporation and nanoscale color imaging by using the color forming reactions of an Ehrlich reagent with the aniline groups. In our study, a low expense monomer, m-chlorosulfonyl benzoyl chloride was synthesized in laboratory under mild conditions. A series of PASAs structured both amide and sulfonamide units were synthesized by the reaction of m-chlorosulfonylbenzoyl chloride with aliphatic diamines. The major works are as follows:(1) The m-chlorosulfonylbenzoyl chloride was synthesized by Benzotrichlorid and chlorosulfonic acid.(2) The PASAs were synthesized by the reaction of m-chlorosulfonylbenzoyl chloride and aliphatic diamines using interfacial polycondensation.(3)The structure of PASAs were charactered, Their structure were unambiguously confirmed by FT-IR、1H-MNR and high-resolution mass spectrometry. Also for the amorphous polymers.(4)Performance of PASAs were tested. Glass transition temperatures of172℃and degradation temperatures for5%weight loss occurred all above479℃in nitrogen, It could be soluble in DMAc、NMP、DMF,The good solubility of PESK.
