Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is an important fuel in chemical industry, which is stored in steel tanks and plays an important role in the world. Generally, it is commonly stored, transported and used in industrial production and is highly flammable, explosive, vaporizable and expandable. The consequence of LPG leakage and explosion accidents is unimaginable. This paper, on the basis of an experiment, illustrate the study of the thermal response of LPG tanks in fire environment and analyze the influence factors of the thermal response process, thus putting forward protection countermeasures. In the study of this paper, first of all, analyze an accident of the LPG leakage and fire explosion in detail, analyze the cause of the accident, summarizes the characteristics and the effects of the damage accident, and established mathematical model and physical model of thermal response; in physical model, describes the thermal response process of internal space and time; in mathematical model, choose standard k-epsilon model for the simulation of the internal medium flow turbulence, choose mixture model processing two phase flow and take advantage of the UDF function to implement gas-liquid mass transfer requirements. In the process of software simulation, use icem structured method to establish the three-dimensional model of vertical storage tank. Then use fluent software to simulate the thermal response process of LPG storage tank, and compared the simulation results and experimental results to prove the validity of the model and calculating settings. Then analyze the storage tank internal pressure and temperature changes under the condition of different filling rate, different heating power and different heating area. The simulation results show that with the heating power rising, the temperature and pressure rise faster. When filling rate becomes lower, the temperature of the LPG storage tank rises faster, while when the filling rate becomes higher, the pressure of the LPG storage tank rises faster. When side wall is heated, the temperature of the storage tank rises at a low speed compared with all surrounded heat tank, while When all surrounded heat, the pressure of storage tank increases faster than the side wall heat storage tank, which contribute to analyzing the tank failure mode.According to the results of the simulation, I study the tank fire safety protection method and give some suggestions to improve tank fire control design. Finally introduce some emergency management measures.
