| As a typical kind of rubber-toughened thermoplastic plastic,ABS resin is widelyused in industrial fields due to its high strength,good toughness,and excellentprocessing properties. However,the optical performance of traditional ABS resin ispoor, so a new brand of transparent ABS resin was developed to broaden theapplying extent of ABS resin.The transparent ABS resin has not only excellentmechanical properties like the traditional ABS resin, but also it has good opticalperformance.The premise of transparent ABS resin to make the refractive index ofrubber phase similar to that of plastic phase,additionally the size control of rubberparticles is the key to the control the refractive index of rubber phase.In this paper,our work was focused on the preparation of several kinds oftransparent ABS modifier through emulsion polymerization and their modificationfor PMMA/SAN resin was studied.The main research tasks and conclusions are asfollows:1.SBR latex with small particle size was prepared by one step method ofemulsion polymerization and SBR latex with large particle size was prepared by fineemulsion polymerization.The effect of the emulsifier, initiator, electrolyte andmolecular weight regulator on both polymerization and latex was examined.St andMMA was grafted on the SBR by graft co-polymerization to get the transparent ABS resin modifier with core-shell structure.A series of transparent ABS resin weresynthesized by the blending of modifier and PMMA/SAN resin.The study found thatthe impact strength of transparent ABS resin improved significantly while thecontent and particle size of rubber phase increased, meanwhile the lighttransmittance and the tensile strength decreased.Furthermore,while the content ofSBR in the modifier improved,the impact strength and tensile strength of ABS resinincreased first,then decreased.2.SBR latex with larger size particle(370nm) was synthesized by agglomerationmethod.Through the mixing of two different kinds of SBR latex(1:1by weight),SBRlatex with bimodal particle size distribution was prepared.After grafted with St andMMA,modifier with cluster structure was prepared to modify the PMMA/SANresin.The novel transparent ABS resin with cluster structure was found to have agood balance between the optical performance and the mechanical properties. |
