The choke point of high speed wire rod production efficiency is the finished product rate, however, increasing the finished product rate would bring plenty of problems. Among many factors, cutting headsand tailsof billets is one of the key problems which needs to be solved. Some billets may split when entering into the downstream mill if not cutting heads.Similarly, if thereliability or precision of head cutting isinsufficient, it would also caused serious influence of production efficiency.Firstly this paper analyzed principle of head cutting through the working process and the theory of the high speed shear control system, statedthe most appropriate location of hot metal detectorunder different feeding speed, and summarizedthe parametersof the programs using formula.In the last two chapters of this paper, we use the conclusion generalized before,established a dynamic model of the shear by control abstraction, and then find and modify the factor which influence the shear cutting reliability and precision according to process data monitoring software PDA and motion control software MintWorkBench:A:Modify the position of the signal and addthe corresponding simulation programin the original program. Simulated rolling in starting for the first time can improve the reliability of the cutting head;B:Increase the stability of the signal and extended the width of Shear calibrationpulse appropriately.reduced the difference of cutting head length, improve the precision of cutting head.It is being proved by the above to improvement of shear reliability and accuracy, improved the production efficiency of the mill. At the same time high quality cutting head also improved the output and the quality of thesteel head.
