Low-speed Wire Electrical Discharge Machining (LS-WEDM) technology has new developments in improving cutting rate, precision and surface quality in the worldwide. Dry WEDM is a newly developed technology, which has the features of better surface straightness, smaller gap length, no electrochemical corrosion and no pollution in processing comparing with the traditional WEDM in liquid. So this new method is suitable for WEDM finishing.In this paper the theory of LS-WEDM, multiple cut processing and results of LS-WEDM finishing in gas were summarized. Moreover, the LS-WEDM machine used in experiments and surface measuring machine were also introduced.The plan for the tests was designed. According to the requirements of database user, machining parameters provided by the LS-WEDM machine and test datas obtained by Harbin University of Science and Technology were analysed and catalogued.Based on gas-liquid combined multiple cut tests in LS-WEDM,experiments of the influences of pulse duaration, pulse interval and peak current on machined surface roughness in WEDM finishing in gas had been done, and experimental formula about surface roughness was obtained.Database of LS-WEDM was developed with the software SQL Server 2000. User can inquire the process plan and machining parameters convinently and add new data into the database.
