Citrus Industry Development Status And Strategies Of Meizhou City Of Guangdong Province

Citrus grandis var. shatinyu Hort has been cultivated at Meizhou for nearly a century. After the Third Plenary Session, particularly after the first working meeting mountain at 1985 in Guangdong Province, Meizhou municipal government made many policies to develop Citrus Industry, including capital, technology policies. With the above-mentioned support and assistance, Citrus industry developed rapidly in Meizhou. As a major project in Meizhou City to speed up the prosperity of farmers, now Citrus industry has become a pillar industry with the most regional characteristics in Meizhou City. Citrus industry can increase farmers'income, adjust agricultural structure and has important practical significance for the development of agriculture and economic development in Meizhou. With the rising of living standard, the majority of consumers tend to demand more fruits with higher quality, boutique-oriented direction. Citrus in Meizhou, due to its beautiful shape, sweet and tasty flesh, rich nutrients and high medical value, is consistent with the requirements of the modern healthy diet, and accepted by large quantity of consumers, therefore it has broad market prospect.Meizhou City is China's largest production base of Citrus. This paper studies Meizhou Citrus industry through questionnaires, interviewing, and survey methods and so on. The paper focuses on Meizhou Citrus Industry Development and problems through comprehensive analysis on mixed varieties, quality degradation, system specifications lack of cultivation and management technologies, inorganic fertilizers abuse, diseases and insect pests;-abuse-of chemical pesticides, mature and efficient post-harvest-preservation and lack of deep processing, Citrus intensive industries, the overall low level of industrialization, scarce of export channel, poor selling and marketing skills, low brand popularity, and so on. This research aims to propose some feasible suggestions on governmental policies, industry collaboration, technology security, brand building, marketing, network expansion, and other aspects. The suggestions may be taken as theory reference for Meizhou city to promote the sustainable development of its Citrus Industry.
