Insurance is one of the three biggest pillars of the financial industry in China, it has gone a rapid development. Variable kinds of insurance in the market meet people for health, education,property and other various needs. At present, insurance industry consists of state-owned commercial insurance corporations,foreign insurance corporations and other companies. The winners are often these companies which have comprehensive strength and good reputation. So it is the most important for many companies to improve their comprehensive strength. Performance is the manifestation of the comprehensive strength of insurance company. Pressure outside and motive inside ask the Chinese insurance company to strengthen its management and raise its performance. Therefore, performance management is given more and more attentions by senior managers,who spend a lot of human,material and financial resources even employ professional consulting firms to improve and optimize their company's performance management. But it has little effect. This paper that is about the study of performance management makes practical sense.This study selected TP insurance company,against its formality, the lack of feedback and application of performance management,to optimize the performance management system by using related theories and system research,qualitative and quantitative methods. Through this study the company can achieve its strategic purpose. In the first part it states the study's meaning and purpose,as well as thought and method. In the second part it illustrates the definition,character and purpose of performance and performance management,also the construction of performance management system. The third part is about the background of company,the condition of human resource management. It analyzes problems and reasons on performance management.In the fourth part I optimize the performance management system by the methods of Key Performance Indicators and Balanced Scorecard. The fifth part is the implementation assurance of performance management system. I try to establish an environment for the construction of performance management system. Finally,I sum up this paper's contents and make further recommendations for improvement.
