Rational use of cultivated land resources restricts the development of economic, the stability of society and the balance of the ecosystem. Sustainable land is the important part of sustainable social development, and reflects the sustainable strategic thinking. Therefore, the study on the sustainable use of cultivated land has important theoretical and practical significance. For the establishment of sustainable development indicator system, the ecological footprint concept provided statistical indicators and direction from the perspective of ecological footprint and ecological capacity for the sustainable development. In this paper, taking Lanzhou City as an example, theory and method of ecological footprint were carried out to calculate and analyze the data. This paper focuses on the study of the model, and calculates the ecological footprint and ecological capacity by using both of the traditional model and improved model respectively. Finally, basing on the improved model, this paper predicts ecological footprint, ecological carrying capacity and ecological sustainability index of Cultivated Land in 2015 and 2020.The conclusions show that improved model is more conducive to the sustainable use of cultivated land in Lanzhou Research. During 2000-2008, Cultivated Land has demonstrated the ecological deficit, and the status is of weak unsustainable, but the cultivated land's environmental sustainability index increased and status become weak sustainable. By stabilizing the amount of cultivated land, improving the quality of cultivated land, enhancing agricultural production technology, promoting the ecological average productivity of the cultivated land, etc., in the 2015-2020 periods, the ecological deficit will be eliminated and the status of the cultivated land's overload use will be eased.
