Sandu Bay has the unique location advantages and obvious advantages in deep water. It is a rare natural deep-water harbor of the southeast coastal of china, and it is the core strategic resources for achieving the regional economic development of the east of Fujian Province. Sandu Bay has great development potential, but has never had a corresponding development and construction. Into the 21st century, the development of economic globalization pushes forward the profound changes in the shipping industry and port industry. With the conduction of western bank of Taiwan straits, the executing of Sandu ring planning and the realization of the "three direct links" between the two sides, the development of Sandu Bay ushered in multiple historic opportunities. At the same time, the development of Sandu Bay is also conditioned by objective factors, and faces the corresponding challenges. Especially, the trend of modern port logistics set new demands on how to exploit Sandu Bay's late-moveradvantage to adapt to the development of port logistics. From the globalization, this paper discussed the interactive relations between port development and regional economic development through the theories about the port and regional economic development, analyzed the historical process of Sandu's exploitation in the context of globalization to explored and concluded the rise and fall of modern Sandu Bay, and gained the experience and inspiration finally. Then this paper further expounded the status and trend of modern Sandu Gulf's development through the SWOT analysis, and put forward some thoughts and suggestions to develop the port economy of Sandu Bay.
