China is in a period of rapid urbanization, on the one hand, urban construction demands for huge land and takes up a lot of fertile farmland, which lead to a serious shortage of farmland. On the other hand, the phenomenon that lots of land is used unreasonably is prevalent. Especially in the twentieth century, China destroyed lots of fertile farmland in order to develop the economy. Irrational land use result in many problems, such as the food security, unreasonable urban planning, social inequity, decreased quality of urban life, environmental degradation, ecological disturbance and so on. In order to resolve problems caused by land use, numbers of scholars suggest intensive land use and sustainable land use. Intensive land use advocates economizing land and investing in land on the increase so as to improve land productivity. Sustainable land use not only considers the benefit for the modern people but also considers the benefit for the unborn people in the process of land use. Economic benefits and social benefits are all considered by sustainable land use. This paper advances green land use on the base of intensive land use and sustainable land use. Intensive land use and sustainable land use focus just on people, by contrast, green land use puts ethnics on land use, no longer focus just on people. This paper study Dongguan land use from intensive land use, sustainable land use and green land use respectively. The last chapter summarizes the experience relating to urban land use from a number of countries and gives suggestion to Dongguan land use from the perspective of green land use.
