Nowadays, with the acceleration of urbanization, the development of city demands for more and more land. The national station that has larger population and less land needs intensively land using, and more and more departments have realized the importance of land intensive use. There are many areas having developed or in the development of the appraisal of urban land intensive use. Therefore, it is of great use to grasp the situation of urban land intensive use in the whole country and the difference among cities, which can designate the direction of advancing land intensive use.The paper studies the macro-evaluation of urban land intensive use on the cities at prefectural level and above, with the reference of the thinking and method of regionalization and farmland classification. And areas of different intensive utilization of land are classified on the foundation of appraisal result, which can used to designate the direction of land intensive use according to differences of those areas. The paper also takes Jinan as an example to analyze the land intensive use, which is as a case of the application of the classification of land intensive use. The whole text chiefly includes several aspects as follows:The introduction part was expounded the background of the thesis, the research trends to the related research at home and abroad that are briefly concluded in the angles of policy, theory ,method, and application. It also points out the questions which should be studied further, and puts forward the content and thought of the research and the frame of the thesis. The second part reviews the related theories of urban intensive land use, which conclude the land location theory, rent theory, premium theory, land compensation theory and the theory of sustainable development. Those theories also analyzed the guide meanings of land intensive use.The third part carries on the intensive utilization evaluation of city land. Firstly method of intensive macro-evaluation of utilization of land is explained and the technology route of the evaluation of intensive land is built. Secondly, the index system is constructed on the four angles of input in the land use, land use intensity, land utilization efficiency and the quality of ecological environment, according to the characteristics of macro-evaluation in multi-cities. Thirdly, Rank Standardization is adopted in the data progressing, and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is used in determining the weights. Fourthly, the intensive degree of land use in each city is computed, as well as the rank division. Finally, the intensive utilization rank of city land is compared with the rank of land price in order to analyze the result of the appraisal of land intensive use.The fourth part carries out the panning of classification of intensive utilization of whole nation land. With the reference of the thought and method of the regionalization, the improved dynamic clustering method is used in the classification of intensive land use. According to the result of intensive utilization evaluation of land, four intensive utilization classes are divided. Then in the four classes, the subclass of intensive land use are divided by the synthetical analysis of the clustering results of the appraisal indexes, which are input in the land use, land use intensity, land utilization efficiency and the quality of ecological environment. The results of classification can be used in the planning of area by designating the direction of land intensive use.The fifth part takes Jinan as the example, the result of classification of land intensive use is used and the circumstances of the land intensive use in Jinan are concretely analyzed. Therefore, the direction of land intensive use can be designated. The sixth part briefly sums up the major conclusion, the innovation and the department needing further study.
