In the past 30 years, China has become to the world manufacturing center for low labor cost and the open policy. But with labor costs increase, RMB exchange rate appreciation, export policy adjustment and external economic environment changing, Chinese manufacturing enterprises have to face tremendous pressure to survive. The global economic crisis from the second half of 2007 which swept the whole world has had a fatal impact to export-oriented enterprises of china. It is a good example for this situation. At the same time, Chinese manufacturing industry recognized as "world factory" is facing unprecedented challenges for economic development and increasing market demand customization and diversification. How to improve the competitiveness in the harsh competitive condition is a difficult problem for management team of manufacturing industry. To solve this problem, learn and introduce advanced management mode of foreign is necessary. Lean production as an efficient production management mode practiced over half a century has become the best choice for companies which want to improve competitiveness. Lean production is a system to achieve the best results through process optimization, organization, operating methods changing to adapt quick changing of customer demand and make the production process all the useless, unnecessary things be eliminated. The core thinking of lean production is to eliminate all inefficiencies and waste. Its ultimately goal is perfect and deliver the competition advantages by constantly costs reduction, improve quality, increase production flexibility, free of waste and zero inventory and other means. Meanwhile, lean production eliminate defects and waste through team work and full participation at all levels to take responsibilities and fully inspirit the potential enthusiasm and intelligence of all employees in a timely manner. In the increasingly of demand customization and changes to the small quantities of many varieties of conditions, SS Shenzhen factory as the company's global production factory, how to establish and maintain their advantage in product quality, cost control, production of flexible, on-time delivery and other aspects become critical. This thesis will analyze and demonstrate the implementation process and the result through current status analysis, lean manufacturing program design, program implementation and effectiveness assessment. Per the practice experience of SS, deduce that lean production has the feasibility for Chinese enterprise and it is a good way to improve competitiveness.
