Internet Industry Self-regulation In The United Kingdom And Its Enlightenment

As one of the main four internet managemant approaches,Internet Industry self-regulation plays an increasingly important role in Internet managemant,which is also an inevitable trend in the future. The United Kingdom, is the representative of countries taking Internet Industry self-regulation as the main manner of internet governance, and is also the most successful one,with its well-developed internet. By describing and analysing the Internet Industry self-regulation in the UK,this dissertation aims at finding out its characteristics and advantages to improveing the Internet Industry self-regulation in China ultimatly.As for research methods, this dissertation takes the content analytic method to analytic the correlative content about Internet industry self-regulation in the United Kingdom. The research objects include the research literature about the United Kingdom internet, information on the website of Internet Watch Foundation,and information of the UK communications sector The Office of Communications.This article consistents of three parts.Part one, expatiates the essential status of Internet Industry self-regulation in the United Kingdom, especially its main regulatory bodies IWF , including IWF's function ,responsibility, structure and how it againsts potentially illegal content. Part two, analysing the Internet Industry self-regulation in the United Kingdom, induces the characteristic and advantage, such as the regulatory environment, Internet censorship and content rating,content-control software Cleanfeed ,calling on the public and so on, and illustrates its successful factor. Part three, seek the the propositional factor for hencing Internet Industry self-regulation in China,associate with Chinese internet development.In current China, Internet Industry self-regulation is not well development.So it's necessary to learn the experience and advantage of foreign countries. This dissertation studys the Internet Industry self-regulation in the United Kingdom,to improve the internet management and governance in China, especially on the aspect of practicable approaches.
