The Analysis And Improvement Methods Of Spare Parts Purchasing In Wuhan Iron And Steel Corporation

In the beginning of the 21st century, driven by the rapid economic development, most of the domestic steel companies expanded their production scale and capacity. But the 2008 U.S. outbreak of the subprime mortgage crisis made them face the economic situation worsened, such as lack of market demand, serious excess capacity. In this context, the Wuhan Iron and Steel Corporation(WISCO) also appeared sluggish sales, management difficulties, forcing WISCO began to pay more attention to procurement management and reduce procurement costs to alleviate the crisis. WISCO has enormous equipments and thousands of types of spare parts, the number of spare parts, related procurement activity and involved purchasers was more than 50% of all purchasing business. Therefore, it has very important practical significance for WISCO to improve procurement management of spare parts.This thesis summarizes and analyzes related domestic and foreign researches in the following aspects: procurement, supply chain, spare parts management and so on,and expounds the WISCO status quo of spare parts management and supplier management. Then, by interviewing with machine technology staff and summerizing many years experience in procurement of spare parts, the author points out some problems existing in the purchasing of spare parts from the aspects of number management of spare parts, plan demand, supplier management, and finds out these problems'root causes:spare parts management michanism was disordered; spare parts classification is not scientific; supplier relationship management was laid too less stress on.On the basis,the improvement policies were provided: firstly,the equipment department of WISCO represent the group to coordinate the relationship in the WISCO International Trade Company(WITC) and many production affiliated ompanies.Secondly, to ensure the intime update of spare parts, the integrated management department of WITC should be in charge of the management of spare parts numbers.Finally, scientific classfication of spare parts, the improvement methods of supplier relationship management were proposed.
