Based On the relevant home and abroad theories and research methods and according to the connotation of urban land intensive use, present situation of land use in GANSU province and its existing problems, this paper establishes the evaluation index system of the urban land intensive use level, which is from four factors of influencing the degree of urban land intensive use that are economic benefit, social benefit, ecological benefit and development potential. Using the multi-factor comprehensive evaluation model to evaluate the 14 cities'urban land intensive use in GANSU province, using the spearman rank correlation coefficient method and trending method to analyze the time characteristics of urban land use, using the intensity index of urban land intensive and SPSS clustering method to analysis the space characteristics from spatial pattern and space level, this paper also analyzes its affecting factors and development trend of GANSU province. It Concludes that:(1) The Degree of urban land use intensity in Gansu Province is lower, which reflects its low intensive use level. By clustering analysis, the first-grade is only Lanzhou city, the secondary are BAIYIN, TIANSHUI, WUWEI, PINGLIANG, JIUQUAN and QINGYANG, the third are JIAYUGUAN, ZHANGYE and LONGNAN, the fourth are JINCHANG, DINGXI and GANNAN, the fifth is only LINXIA.(2) From the trending change, the change directions of urban land intensive use for the city of GANSU are identical, which is rising as time and the gap among the urban land use intensive in GANSU province is decreasing. In the future, the intensity in most of GANSU districts and cities is at the accelerating growth stage. But the five cites of JIAYUGUAN, JINCHANG, TIANSHUI, QINGYANG and DINGXI at the decelerating growth stage, especially BAIYIN city at the dropping stage. From the growing stage, we can see that cites which growing rate are belong to the lower growth and the higher growth are at the accelerating stage, but belong to the middle growth are at the decelerating growth stage.(3) In the process of development, the development process of land intensive degrees are accelerating in the cities of GANSU, the spacious convergence of urban land intensive degrees are reducing, and the spacious differences is become more and more obvious. In the level of development, the development process of intensive land degrees have improved a lot and the coefficient of spacious variation is reducing, which indicates spacious convergence of land intensive degrees are gradually strengthen in GANSU province. The apace distribution of intensive level is just contrary to its expanding intensity, which reduces the land intensive difference and the space difference among cities of GANSU province. And this phenomenon can be tested and verified by the development trend of intensive spatial variation coefficient.(4) On the whole, the population increasing range is less than the total construction land from 1998 to 2007 in cities of GANSU province, and the construction land increasing is in advance of the growth of population growth. Except JIAYUGUAN, BAIYIN, TIANSHUI, DINGXI and LONGNAN, other cities'expanding is over the speed of population growth. During this period, the growth rate of most urban land input is more than output, and the land outputs increasing are benefit for lots of capital inputs. The urban construction land between input and output is not harmonious, and appear some phenomenon in money wasted and a certain distance from the real intensive utilization.
