All the time, the papermaking industry is regarded as "never depleted" industry. In China, as the basic industry of national economy, our country promises to reduce the import duty of some paper products progressively and allow the investment in papermaking industry after entering into WTO, which has initiated a big discussion of whether the papermaking industry is able to overcome the challenge WTO brought among the scholar, and most of them hold wait-and-see attitude. Our country has already joined WTO for five years so far, how it will be of our country papermaking industry state of development, become one generally concerned focus.Firstly, by carrying on the empirical research to our country papermaking industry's developing state after entering into WTO, results show that the structure of domestic paper products is improving and the output of high added value paper products increases relatively fast, such as newsprint paper, art printing paper, corrugated original paper and so on. Although the non-wood-pulp proportion is still large in the domestic pulp-making industry, it presents the downward trend year by year. The production distribution is centralized to the east of our country, and the production concentration degree increases very fast.Secondly, after making study on our country's paper and paper products foreign trade, results show that the import structure is improving actually, as the total import quantity of our country paper products increased in recent years. And the import quantity of high added values paper products appears the downward trend year by year, such as newsprint paper, art printing paper, etc. Though the absolute quantity of our country paper products is less in export, but average annual rate of increment is relatively high.Moreover, by analyzing the international competition ability of paper products of our country, it seems the competitiveness isn't strong. On the other hand, the competitiveness strengthens progressively year by year.
