| As essential participants in the competition of international shipping market, shipping enterprises and their development in the international shipping market directly impact on the shipping industry and the comprehensive power of a nation. Domestic enterprises have gained rapid growth since the reform and opening, along with the immense advancement of economy and trade. In 1990s, especially after China becomes member of WTO, Chinese economy and the world economy are getting more and more tightly tied. The opening of the domestic shipping market has entered a breakthrough stage.The continuous flourish of the international shipping market after-late 2003 reflects the fast development of international economy and trade, bringing grand opportunities to domestic shipping enterprises. Facing such challenges and opportunities, domestic enterprises should accurately analyze the situation of the international shipping market, to choose a proper strategy that fits their current development status, in order to maximize their competition ability and minimize the gap between the well-known international shipping enterprises and themselves.This thesis presents a systemic introduction of the fundamental situation and the supply-and-demand characteristics of the current shipping market.
