Sustainable development is an important milestone of modern civilization, and also is the target that the mankind is pursuing. Region sustainable development is the foundation of world sustainable development, and also the stage performance of world sustainable development. Nowadays under the situation of economic globalization progress acceleration and international competition increasingly sharping, changing the growth method and pursuing sustainable development is becoming a world current. To evaluate exactly the moderate degree and sustainability of the population, resources and environment of every area has very important meaning for establishing and implementing the sustainable development strategy. Ecological footprint theory was put forward by Canadian ecosystem economist William and his student Wackernagel at the beginning of 90's in the 20 centuries. It is a kind of new method that can be used for calculating the degree of the sustainable development. This thesis will lead the ecological footprint theory to the research of regional ecological system, and express the pressure and its degree of the natural ecosystem system using the fixed regional ecological footprints, and carry on a study to regional sustainability further, so to provide reasonable countermeasures for it.The full thesis consists of four chapters.In chapter one, the author introduces the background of sustainable development in Wuhu. And then on the basis of summing up the producing and evolution of sustainable development the author discusses the conception and connotation of regional sustainable development and its theory basis.
