The narrow sense of development refers to the activity in economic domain and its goal is the output value, the profit growth and the material wealth increase. But development does not have the narrow sense to be understood as the economic growth. The economic growth is the essential condition for development, but not the sufficient. The economic growth is only a part of development. The development is the enhancement of welfare and life quality in the limited resources environment. True development is the development, which can improve all aspects of human lives. This article founds synthetic indicator systems for sustainable development, which cover the economic system, the social system and the system of resources environments and include 33 variables. In this article two kinds of objective weight method: principal components analytic method and entropy value method have carried on assessment of indicator systems for sustainable development. This article compares and analyses the results of the two methods, then points out that the differences between the two methods are data standardization method and the weight method. IntroductionThis part mainly introduces the theoretical background and the significance of this topic, the research framework, and the research approaches as well as the main work of this article. First chapter References overviewThis part introduces the related domestic and foreign references about the theory of sustainable development. It mainly introduces the sustainable development definition from the angle of economy, the economic type, the technology, the society, the ecology as well as the indicator systems for sustainable development, the results and the present situation. Second chapter General introduction of principal components analytic method and entropy value methodThis part mainly introduces the theoretical origin of principal components analytic method as well as the entropy value method. It explains the important concept and theoretical significance, which the method involves. At the same time the author specifies the work step as well as the good and bad points of the two methods in assessment of sustainable development. Third chapter Quantitative analysis of sustainable development power of ChinaThis chapter is core of the full article. Firstly this chapter introduces the elementarytheoretical hypothesis of the sustainable development theory as well as the selecting principles, then founds the indicator systems for sustainable development, which contain three large-scale systems: the economic development system, the social progress system and the system of resources environments. Using the principal components analytic method and the entropy value method, the author calculates the system assessment score and finally analyzes the results comparatively. The main processes of sustainable development assessment are: First carrying on standardized processing to the data, next calculating the score with two methods, then appraising the score by descending sequence, arrangement. The higher the value is, the stronger the system's sustainable development power is, the lower the value is, the weaker the system's sustainable development power is. The result shows that the changing tendency of diagram of curves of the two methods is more or less the same. Fourth chapter Conclusions and policy suggestionsThis chapter makes conclusions based on the above analysis and gives the corresponding policy comments.
