Over twenty years has been passed since our party and government carried out the reform and opening policy. During this time our national economy developed quickly and resident income improved .With diverse income sources, various income distribution and readjustment of interest pattern, the larging resident income gap has aroused the great attention of the whole society, the government and theorists are trying to find out how to deal with the problem. At first , this dissertation analyses the actual state of resident income gap and its trend, especially the resident income gap between provinces, and decomposes the resident income gap by using the decomposing rule of Theil index, then compares the difference between the resident income gap and the economic developing gap. Then it studies the relationship between the resident income gap and the economic growth gap from the theoretical and empirical viewpoints. This dissertation also points out the localization of the Gini coefficient. At last, this dissertation makes some suggestions on reducing China's resident income gap benefiting from foreign experience.The main conclusions of this dissertation are: (l)The resident income gap becomes larger and larger, especially between different industries, between the urban and the rural as well as different provinces. (2) The economic developing gap between different provinces influences the resident income gap, at the same time they are different. (3)The enlargement of income gap has a close connection with the insufficient consumption demand.
