The Trend Of Rural Settlements Development In Chinese Urban Clustered Area

According to China's fundamental realities, urbanization process and the current situation, studies on rural settlements development have been of great significance and necessity. As the urbanization rate accelerates, the well development of the rural areas plays an important role in promoting China's social and economic development and advancing the urbanization process. The construction of new socialist countryside is an essential strategy to carry out the concept of scientific development and solve the"three dimensional rural issues". Therefore, it has been a key issue to study the development of rural settlements, especially in Chinese urban clustered area where the urbanization rate is the most rapid. This paper will focus on the trend of rural settlements development during the accelerating process of urbanization and industrialization, taking Yinzhou district in Ningbo in the Yangtze River delta as the case.Most of the data in this paper is based on literature review, interview surveys as well as questionnaire surveys.Firstly, this paper carries on a general review on relative domestic and foreign research, which helps to draw the conclusion that the process of urbanization have a direct influence to the development of rural settlements;Secondly, based on the analysis of urbanization process and rural industries in China's urban clustered area, this paper states that the development of township enterprises is a major cause of urbanization in urban clustered area, and a primary factor affecting the urbanization process. At the same time, the rapid development of rural industries becomes a new force for the development of rural areas and acceleration of urbanization.Thirdly, this paper analyses the characteristics and main problems in the aspects of space, population and living conditions of the rural settlements in Yin Zhou district. Afterwards, the paper points out that under the function of rapid industrialization and urbanization, the spatial structure of urban clustered area is facing the need of reformation. The dispersed development pattern of rural settlements has not been able to adapt the rapid urbanization, and should transform to moderate concentration pattern which is also called "dispersion in large scale, concentration in small scale".Last but not least, this paper proposes some planning strategies and policies on development of rural settlements in Yinzhou district, and prospects some directions for future study.
