China has accessed WTO for 5 years, the period during which China's farming industry has been growing and participating from the indirect and less-fierce to direct and fierce international competition. How international trade in China's farming industry can prosper becomes a crucial problem, especially in a context of globalization of economy and the passing away of the effect of WTO. A key to success lies on the improvement of the international competitiveness of China's farming products.Firstly, this paper discusses the context of China's trade in farming products, i.e. the international competition in a globalizing economy. IMF developed a definition of globalization of economy in its report"world economy review"in May 1997, which is adopted in this paper: globalization of economy refers to the enhancement of the scale and form in product and service trade and international capital flow, of the transfer of technology, and of the interdependency among economies in the world. Then this paper deeply explores the character of globalization of economy from 5 aspects, i.e. international trade, multinational firm, regional cooperation, transfer of information technology and the improvement of the regulations in international organizations. China's policies and responsibilities according to the"farming product agreement"of WTO are also presented: gradually cutting down tariffs of farming products from 19.9% in 2001, to 17% in 2004, and finally 15.1% in 2008; releasing the trade of wheat, orange and meat with...
