An International Comparison Of The Innovative Competitiveness And Economic Growth

In21st century, innovation is the core theme of economic development. Now, the global economy is facing so many unfavorable factors, like scarcity of resources, increasing of the production cost and so on. More and more countries have accepted the concept of forming the developing pattern of innovation-driven economic growth. Under this circumstance, innovative competitiveness appears a huge importance on country’s economic growth. Until now, theoretical studies have confirmed the positive effect of innovation on economic growth. In the literatures, scholars all over the world commonly analyze the influence of innovation on economic growth from one angle, such as the innovation input, the innovation output and so on. Based on this, the paper introduces the concept of Innovative Competitiveness and constructs its evaluation system to analyze the influence of innovative competitiveness on country’s economic growth so as to reflect the paper’s comprehensiveness and innovativeness.In this research, the paper constructs the evaluation system of innovative competitiveness with four aspects. They are the competitiveness on innovation input, the competitiveness on innovation output, the competitiveness on innovation environment and the competitiveness on international innovation. Besides, it empirically analyzes the innovative competitiveness’influence on economic growth by using the panel data of48main countries from year1999to2008. The result shows that the four elements constructed with innovative competitiveness have a significantly positive effect on country’s economic growth. At the same time, the paper takes innovative countries and BRIC countries as examples to respectively analyze the different effects of innovative competitiveness on economic growth. The empirical result shows that innovative competitiveness’influences on economic growth with countries which have different economic level are not the same. The common point reflects that innovative competitiveness can promote the country’s economic growth. The competitiveness on innovation input, innovation output and innovation environment have significant influence, while the competitiveness on international innovation haven’t the significant effect. In addition, the different point shows that the innovative competitiveness’impacts on economic growth have different degrees for different countries’samples. Compared with innovative countries, the four parts of innovative competitiveness have greater promotion on BRIC countries’economic growth. At last, based on the empirical results and the measures of cultivating the innovative competitiveness in innovative countries, the paper raises some proposals of improving innovative competitiveness for developing countries like BRIC countries.
