From the past to now, technology is giving strong support to the innovation and development of retail and it has stirred chained retail reform and continuous format transition. With the coming of information age, retail enterprises in home and abroad have all strengthen the technological innovation to improve the usage of technology. Although Chinese retail has made stride since the reform and opening-up, it still has many problems and large gap between foreign ones and it in the realization of the importance of technology, the usage and innovation of technology and the informationlization besides its own specialties. The aims of this paper are to describe and demonstrate how technology affects the transition and innovation of retail format, discuss the mechanism of format transition from the angle of technological reform, so as to help the enterprises have an overall and deeper understanding about how to accelerate the innovation of retail format in information age. At last, the paper will propose some scientific and aiming countermeasures to provide theoretic bases for enterprises and government to make decision and a way of thinking for the enterprises to improve their operation and competitiveness.The paper has five chapters. Chapter one is the guiding statement. The main content is introducing the base, the meaning, the content and the research method, the main conclusions and the possible innovative points of the paper. Chapter two is the theoretical analysis of retail format transition from the technological angle. After define the relative words, the paper will discuss how technological accumulation and innovation will give birth to the new retail format using the transition model based on the technological angle, and then get the conclusion and inspiration. Chapter three mainly introduces the historical advancement of technological innovation and format transition. First, it retrospects the historical advancement of technological innovation, and then takes several common formats as examples and discuss how technological innovation affects the core factors of retail format and leads to its transition from the ancient time to now through the analysis of the core factors. At last, the paper will summarize the influence of technology on retail format transition. The content of chapter four is technological progress and retail development. First, it will calculate the dedication rate of technological progress to retail development, and then through introducing the practice of Wal-Mart, we will have a more direct understanding of the affect of information technology to retail development and abstract some suggestionto Chinese enterprises. In the last chapter, the paper will advance the development road of Chinese retail in the information age, which is retail innovation based on the informationlization. After reviewing the transition course of Chinese retail format, the paper will talk about its complexion in the usage, innovation and informationlizaiton drive, and then it will find the restrictions of Chinese retail in the application and innovation of technology. At last, aiming at these problems, the paper will bring forward the suggestion to promote the innovation and development of Chinese retail format from the angle of conception to practice and from the outside of the enterprises to the inside.
