Research On Competency Of Knowledge Workers In Manufacturing Enterprises Of Household Appliances

With the knowledge economy's coming, enterprises' competition is very fierce. Knowledge workers become the core power of improving enterprises' competence because of their owning technology. Under the current surroundings, knowledge workers' performance and their competence have become extremely important factors. Competency is a reflection of characteristics of the staff with high performance. It effectively ensures that employees do good jobs. So it's significant to research the competency and its model.Firstly, the researcher reviewed the theories and models of competency, discussed its origin, definitions, methods and structures, and reviewed the domestic and foreign research findings of competency.Secondly, because there are a little researches in the domestic manufacturing enterprises of household appliances, the researcher selected six human resources managers and thirty-three knowledge workers of the quality improvement department in a household appliances manufacturer called H in Hefei to retrieve competencies. Behavioral events interview and questionnaires have been used to explore the required competencies with unique culture background to manufacturing enterprises of household appliances. Then both quantitative and qualitative methods have been applied to analyze the obtained materials. The following are our research findings:(1) A preliminary model on competency for has been established.(2) A preliminary model on competency for knowledge workers of the quality improvement department in manufacturing enterprises of household appliances has been established.(3) Because of the organizational culture and the marketing environment, our model for human resources managers in manufacturing enterprises of household appliances is very different from the common model proposed by Marquardt and Engel.Finally, the researcher gives some advice for manufacturing enterprises of household appliances by the findings.
