A Method Study On The Evaluation Of Logistics Industry's International Competitiveness

With the acceleration of global economic unification and rapid development of information technology, logistics industry is rising and forming acceleratively. Facing the global market competition, the development of logistics industry in each country will receive both the challenge from international competition and the pressure of existence crisis. However, there is only one factor that affects its survival and development, which is to develop and to upgrade its own international competitiveness. The research of International Competitiveness of Logistics Industry (ICLI) is a new theoretical ken and research area. It's a challengeable study which has great theoretical value and practical significance. Now, it has been focused greatly by governments, enterprises, and many academic research agencies. The thesis would discuss mainly about the model and index system of ICLI in theory in hope of establishing the foundation for ICLI's quantitatively demonstrational research.Firstly, by viewing different explanations that different research agencies and authorities give to international competitiveness, the paper defines the connotation of international competitiveness and indicates its basic connotation. The meaning of the industrious international competitiveness is the competence of an industry to keep the market, exploit the market, occupy the market and make the industry to be grand. Commonly we think that the industrious competitiveness is not only the core of the economic competitiveness but also the core of the integrative competitiveness. Then, by explaining the academic views of different schools, such as the Comparative Advantage theory, the Competitive Advantage theory and the Core Competence of Corporation theory, we can also investigate the development of theory about International Competitiveness of industry (ICI). Comparative Advantage Rule is the basic theory of international trade. Michael·E·Porter publicized his famous trilogy, Competitive Strategy(1980), Competitive Advantage(1985), The Competitive Advantage(1990), which brought forward systematically his Competitive Advantage Theory. Firstly, this article recalls the backgrounds and the process of the two theories. Secondly it makes analysis on the two theories. Thirdly, associating with the developing clue and the connation of the two theories focuses on the illumination brought by Diamond Model of Competitive Advantage to the economic reality. Prahalad and Hamel provided the concept of the core competence of the corporation in 1990, and it has become a heat point of the research on business management theory.With the research of the international competitiveness, the connotation of it has not only become more and more rich, but also has more perspectives and levels to divide the international competitiveness. The ways of evaluation on a country's international competitiveness have made a lot of positive results. There are some common ways such as the WEF evaluation method, IMD evaluation method, export data evaluation method and benchmarking method, etc.Secondly, on the basis of former analysis and combining with the industrial character of logistics industry, the paper gives a further explanation to ICLI and indicates its three source levels: the basic level of Comparative Advantage based, the key level of Competitive Advantage based and the core level of Core Competence of Corporation based. By this way, we can set the source model of ICLI. Then with the help of "fishbone analytic map", the paper indicates the key elements that affect ICLI, and gives a detailed explanation about scientific progress and technology innovation, resource endowments and market scale, etc.Finally, combining the analysis of ICLI evaluation's economic analyzing model with former discussion, the paper establishes the analytical framework for evaluation of ICLI, then, proposes and builds up the index system of ICLI in the direction of quantity and quality, which is on the basis of reorganizing evaluation indexes of ICI and statistics indexes of logistics industry. Meanwhile, accurate definitions and detailed explanations on related indexes are available. Then we give an exploratory analysis on weigh of evaluation indexes and evaluation procession in order to establish the foundation of ICLI's quantitatively demonstrational research.This thesis introduces Michael E.Porter's "competition theory", and then scientifically analyzes the competitive ability about the logistics industry by Porter's Diamond model from the point of view of the industry competition. In the end, rational strategies have been brought forward to upgrade their competitive ability according to the logistics industry's circumstance and self- strength. The paper analysis a case on Diamond Model, explores how Chinese logistics industry had created and made full use of the six factors of the model in its process of improving its industrial comparative advantage. Analyzed how to optimize the condition for the forming of Chinese logistics industry's in international competitiveness quickly. Through analysis, we think the logistics industry will grow fast accompanied with opportunities and challenges. In despite of the low competitive ability and status in china at present, their future will be bright, and the logistics industry will be the one of the new backbones of the domestic economy. The paper analysis a case on Diamond Model, explores how Chinese logistics industry had created and made full use of the six factors of the model in its process of improving its industrial comparative advantage. Analyzed how to optimize the condition for the forming of Chinese logistics industry's in international competitiveness quickly.
