Study On Functions Of Central Government In Fight Against Poverty In Countryside

China is one of the countries where poverty and development standing out among other issues. Large-scale policy support is the characteristic and advantage of China's fight against poverty in countryside. The government can invest a large amount of capital and resource to solve poverty and rapidly popularize new policies. Chinese central government has adopted the following methods to fight against poverty among poor people and depressed areas: providing work as a form of relief, financial support of the poor, seting up development fund for minorities, investing in infrastructure and public welfare undertaking to improve the production and living condition of the poor people, grand development of west region, support of poor with"input blood"and many support to the old, the young, the inhabitants of frontier and poor areas. Cooperated by the government at all levels, the central government has tried many methods and invested a great deal of money and material in the poor area and poverty-stricken people and has turned out an inspiring result. The income and living standard of the poor people have increased greatly, and the poverty-stricken population of 125,000,000 in 1985 has been reduced to 23,650,000 in 2005. The production and living condition of the poor areas have been greatly improved and all social undertakings have achieved an inspiring development. The fight against poverty not only solves the food and clothing of the poor, but also plays an important role in maintaining a healthy and continuous development of national economy, political stability, harmonious society and national unity. To a certain extent, government's involvement in fight against poverty in countryside is of great historical significance to eliminate poverty in countryside.Entering into the 21st century, the poverty in countryside has been greatly eliminated.
