The economic history of developed countries shows that its heavy-chemistry industrialization began after light industrialization was achieved. Under the background of a new round of heavy industrialization, there is also an obvious trend in Guangdong that heavy industry are taking a more and more part in the whole industry in recent years. As a region which owns distinct advantage in light industry, Guangdong lacks the tradition and necessary energy of developing heavy industry, then how about the forces of its recent adjustment of industry structure? Is it the regular result of industrialization or just the effects of related policies? Moreover, has it brought healthy development of industry economics? From two points of view-the transition of industry makeup and the energy-consumption efficiency, this thesis has evaluated the inevitability and rationality of the heavy-chemistry industry road in Guangdong according to the standard of new industrialization. This thesis consists of five parts:Part 1, the brief review of related theory on industrial structure, which constitutes the theoretical foundation and the realistic starting point of this thesis.Part 2, the comparison of industry advancement in Guangdong and the whole country. Contrast the level of industrialization from those aspects such as average personal income, people's consumption makeup, level of urbanization, etc. Explain that it is necessary and high time for Guangdong to develop its heavy-chemistry industry.Part 3, analyze the feature of industrial structure transition in Guangdong. Divide the whole industry into three types-labor-intensive, capital-intensive and technology-intensive. Explain that the industrial structure adjustment accords with two standard of new industrialization-"high technology and high economical return" through comparing the change of proportion and capital return of each kind industry.Part 4, analyze the energy efficiency of industrial economy. Decompose the change of energy consumption into two factors-structure factor and efficiency factor. Discuss if the industrial structure adjustment tallies with one of the new industrialization standard-"less resource-consumption" and explain the feasibility and rationality of the heavy-chemistry industry road in Guangdong.Part 5, conclusions and suggested countermeasure. Summarize the whole contents and propose some suggestions which accelerate the new industrialization process in Guangdong.
