Land is the most important resource for human living and development. A large population and a shortage of land resources of China has become an important factor restricting China's urban and rural economic development. At present, China has entered the development stage of rapid urbanization and industrialization, leading up to the rapid expansion of urban. As a fringe link between urban and rural districts, the issue of suburb land use has become increasingly prominent. Meanwhile, China's economic growth mode is facing a fundamental change from extensive growth to intensive growth. Therefore, the intensive utilization study of suburban land use is significant in the angle of protecting land resources, as well as restructuring and rational allocation of land. Nowadays, the suburban land use has become increasingly concerned by the government and also the academic community. But so far, the theoretic system of intensive utilization of suburban land has not been established. So, the research should be strengthened. The paper is divided into six chapters. In chapter 1, the background of the research has been discussed, the research development of land use at home and abroad has been reviewed in a detail, and the research method, the content, and the meaning of the paper has also been introduced. In the second chapter, the concept, function and land-use features of suburbs have been analyzed, and the concept and meaning of land intensive utilization as well as the relationship and distinction between Land intensive utilization and land sustainable utilization has been discussed. In the third chapter, the driving mechanism of intensive utilization of suburban land has been analyzed. The economic driving factors are agglomeration effect and constituent substitution, and the social driving factors are urbanization & industrialization and population growth & population quality.Chapter 4 & 5 are keystones of the full paper. In Chapter 4, the method and way for intensive utilization of suburban land are introduced. The antecedent conditions of intensive utilization of suburban land are scientific land plan and administration. Then land intensive utilization for the uptown, industrial district, and agricultural region have been discussed. As far as possible to increase the plot ratio and implement housing intensive design are the main methods for the uptown; land stock cooperation is the system choice for industrial district; the establishment of modern agriculture garden is the development direction for agricultural region. In Chapter5, the potential assessment system of intensive utilization of suburban land has been introduced. This system is divided into four layers, including the target layer, the rule layer, the factor layer and the index layer. In the end of this chapter, the assessment model has been established, including integrated assessment model and the determination model of obstacle degree, and a simple case analysis of a village in the outskirts of Chongqing city has been made.In the final section, Chapter 6, a summary and conclusion has been done, and the limitations of this study have been raised.
