In the context of rapid industrialization and scarcity of land resources, the contradiction between supply and demand of industrial land has become increasingly prominent, and intensive land use as an important approach to alleviate resource bottleneck has been the consensus. Under the background, the Chinese government at all levels had formulated the corresponding policy laws and regulations of improving the intensive utilization of industrial land. And in order to meet the demands of industrial land use policy, it is particularly important to evaluate the industrial land intensive use and research its driving factors. And many industrial enterprises raising the level of land intensive utilization is the key to promote the industrial land intensive use, therefore, in view of the industrial enterprise land intensive utilization evaluation and its driving factors becomes more urgent. Based on this, this article takes coastal developed areas, the fast process of industrialization, and takes the Guangdong and Jiangsu for examples, based on China’s industrial enterprise database.First of all, this article established a micro-level industrial enterprise land use database based on "industrial enterprises database" and supplementary investigation, and analyzed intensive land use of different industries, ownerships and scales. The results showed that:the investment and output of monopolized industries are higher, and the intensive land use is higher than other industries. The investment thresholds of different industries are generally low in the "industrial project construction land use control targets", and the index differentiation is not obvious. The intensive land use is significantly different due to different ownership shareholding, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and foreign enterprises have the highest level of land use, while the state-owned enterprises are in the middle. With the expansion of business scale, the level of intensive land use increases significantly.Furthermore, under the background of existing research has focused on the macro level, this article will analyze the driving factors from the view of theory and study its transmission mechanism in the micro level of the enterprises. Based on 1290 industrial enterprises from 1999 to 2009 in Guangdong and Jiangsu provinces, this article studied on the driving factors on intensive land use. The empirical results were in accordance with theoretic analysis. The results showed that industrial land price is the most significant driving factors, input to the land can improve the land use intensity significantly, especially the labor input, because China is in the land phase of increasing marginal returns, and the land use intensity of foreign capital enterprises is higher than other ownership enterprises. In addition, the enterprise size and distance from ports presents an inverted U-shaped relationship with land use intensity, and the land use intensity can be enhanced effectively by good location, profitability and economic environment. Finally, the article put forward countermeasures and suggestions of land intensive utilization of industrial enterprises, to further improve the industrial project construction land control indicators of industrial land investment admittance threshold, and strengthen the industry investment difference; We will deepen reform of the marketization of industrial land, moderately increase the price for the transfer of land for industrial use; Adjust the industrial structure, develop healthy social and economic development; Reasonable planning of industrial layout, and promote the scale of industrial cluster development; Timely guidance to the enterprises reorganization, stimulate the internal vitality, improve enterprise management level.
