Electronic commerce (EC) is the business with more effcienence and lower cost by means of electronic technologies such as internet.The value chain includes six parts which are design, purchasing, manufacture, marketing&sales, logistics and service. There are three kinds of companys classified by their business charactors which are companys whose business include all six parts of the value chain, only one part of the value chain and 2~5 parts of the value chain. Furthermore, there are two kinds of companies classified by their sizes which are large companies and small companies.This paper analysizes application enviroments and charactors of information systems of all these six kinds of companies and concludes that:1. Inner information systems of large companies whose business includes all six parts of the value chain have the function of EC, so there is no market opportunity to the third part EC plat.2. Small companies whose business includes all six parts of the value chain need no inner information systems and the third part EC plats.3. Customers of the third part EC plats are companies whose business inculdes 2~5 parts of the value chain and small companies whose business includes only one part of the value chain. These plats must be well known and have deep understandings of and strong abilities in the industry and business they serve.4. One of core competetances of large companies, whose business includes only one part of the value chain, is their inner information systems, so there is no market opportunity to the third part EC plats.
