With the development of economic globalization, enterprises will win competitive advantage by continuously improving innovation capability, not only by the possession of scarce resources. However, any firm cannot satisfy the need of innovation resources only depending upon its internal limited resources. Firms, therefore, are striding forward to open, collaborative, network and dynamic integration in order to effectively make use of their internal and external resources. Thus, it is of value to research on the relationship between corporate social capital and innovative performance.Theoretical approach and investigative approach have been employed in the dissertation. Firstly, by combining the theory of social capital with the theory of innovation, this dissertation systematically analyzes the relationship between enterprises' social capital and the performance of innovation from the three facets of social capital: external social capital, internal social capital and relational social capital. Then the dissertation demonstrates the direct impact of social capital on innovative performance and the indirect impact of human capital on innovative performance. Finally, using the high-tech enterprises in Xi'an as a sample, the dissertation proves the prominent impact of social capital on innovative performance, and discovers its impact goes beyond the impact of human capital. There are three results from this study:Firstly, enterprises' social capital has become a key factor in improving innovative performance. Because of the embeddability of enterprises' behaviors and its dynamical innovation, enterprises can continually obtain all kinds of resources required such as information, knowledge and capital. Based on this, enterprises can enhance its innovative ability and competitive advantage.Secondly, the three facets of social capital play an impulse role in boosting innovative performance. Of the three facets, relational social capital's effect is the most prominent, the second is external social capital, and the internal social capital' effect is the least prominent.Thirdly, corporate social capital and corporate human capital are the two key factors affecting innovative performance. In certain circumstance, the effect of corporate social capital goes beyond the effect of corporate human capital. The analysis of the sample data also validates the given assumption.
