Nowadays, the world economy is going towards more global. The international competitive strategies became more and more important to any country in the world. China market plays a significant role to the Canadian ginseng industry, which holds the biggest market share in the Chinese ginseng market. However, after being the market follower toward the U.S. ginseng for so many years, Canada still doesn't have its own brand. With the substantial production growth of China-grown North American ginseng in recent years, the market price dropped down dramatically. In addition, the U.S. also strengthened their combat with the trade mark abusage in China. Canadian ginseng can no longer survive by relying on the U.S. brand. Hence, under the current market situations in China, it is very important for Canadian ginseng industry to choose the appropriate competitive strategies.In order to help Canadian ginseng industry resolve the never-encountered difficulties, understand the current market situations and trends, and maintain the long-term development, this paper will collect and analysis the market data, study the recent development of Canadian ginseng industry and the current business environment of China ginseng market; utilize the SWOT analysis model to study the resources of Canadian ginseng industry and find out its strength, weakness, opportunities and threats in China market; and combine the theory of Michael Porter's three basic competitive strategies and suggest that differentiating and concentrating competitive strategies should be taken by the Canadian ginseng industry. This paper also compare with and learn from the competitive strategies taken by the other competitor countries for China market, and provide Canadian ginseng industry with detailed strategic plans, which are to become a market challenger from a market follower, carry out branding and trade mark tactic, products combination tactic, total production control and pricing tactic, and make good use of the organizing functions of the industry associations.
