The Grand Canal as the longest artificial canal in the world plays an important role in regional economy, especially the part from Xuzhou to Yangzhou in the North of Jiangsu province. We will not make appropriate preparation and arrangement until contribution of the Grand Canal in the North of Jiangsu province is calculated quantitatively and what it will work to regional economy is known. Since there is deep and wide relationship between the Grand Canal and other departments, it will make the researching difficult.Input-output theory is one of the most important tools to study the impact and relation among industries of National Economy. This theory is easy to understand and its calculation is not complicated. However the premise of calculation process input-output table needs lots of statistic work and skills. In this paper the latest Jiangsu province input-output table and interrelated statistic supplied by Jiangsu Transportation Plan and Design institute are used flexibly, we make it more suitable to serve in quantitative model. Moreover this versatility is successfully based on calculation result. The beginning part of this paper introduces the characters of waterway and the developing tendency of the Grand Canal in the North of Jiangsu province, analyses its status and function; In chapter 4 and chapter 5, the value of some index is worked out according to the input-output table of 2000 and Jiangsu province statistic of 2005.The study shows that it is multiple of the contribution. The pattern of the productive forces is more and more reasonable and the port economy industrial zone and cities are developed. The volume of shipping is increasing year by year. So it is hardly to calculate the contribution quantitatively.
